Aspire Youth (South Africa) Donations Needed

As we start to see the re-opening of some businesses and some restrictions are being lifted, maybe now is a time to give thanks for our health and reach out to those less fortunate; be it someone on the other side of the world or someone right down the street.

Maybe there are things that you couldn’t do during the pandemic that might have saved some dollars. For example, maybe you saved money on car insurance, room and board for a college student, gas money from less driving, not being able to go to the movies, or to that game or concert or amusement park, or not taking that summer vacation. Wouldn’t it feel right, in the light of this pandemic, to donate some of those planned expenditures to those who need it most?? Think about it…$20 for that night out at the movies could support an impoverished household of 8-10 for an entire month.

Before the pandemic, the median income each household in the Phillipi Agricultural belt of the Western Cape (near Cape Town, South Africa) was about $80/month. In some households, the income has dropped to zero due to the quarantine. Aspire Youth has been working hard at delivering hundreds of food parcels and over 700 sandwiches 3-4 times per week, as well as distributing safety pamphlets and educational kits for children. South African volunteers have sourced the delivery, curriculum development, and printing needs to serve the underserved. South African social businesses have dedicated a portion of their profits toward food security for the underprivileged.

However, more needs to be done to help to take care of those under the most dire circumstances. Donations are needed for continued food delivery, for developing food gardens for increased self sufficiency, for purchasing essential supplies such as masks and soap, warmer clothes are needed as winter approaches in the southern hemisphere, and toys are needed for a community toy library.
