Ambassador of Peace Medal for Korean War Veterans

A ceremony to award an Ambassador of Peace Medal to Korean War Veterans was held in April as an expression of appreciation from the South Korean Government.  A local family attended with their father, a Korean War Veteran.  The ceremony was held at the Schuylkill County Court House with 43 veterans attending.  Also attending were wives, children, or grandchildren from veterans who had passed.  The local family did not see any other familiar faces and wanted to make sure other Korean War Veterans in our area were aware of this ceremony.  They will be doing another in August.  To receive the award, they must show Korean War service with honorable discharge.  If you don’t have the required information, the Veteran’s Administration can help get it before the next ceremony.  Anyone interested in finding more information should contact Brenda Zechman at the Schuylkill County Office of Veteran Affairs.  Brenda is also a wonderful resource for veteran’s benefits.
